It was published just before the outbreak of WWII in Europe, and the book acts as a prologue of sorts for the great trilogy, The Lord of the Rings. Tolkien as a children's book and first published in Great Britain in 1937 by George Allen & Unwin. hardcover, a Fine example, unread, a VERY faint stress line on the upper corner of 5 pages (very difficult to see), deckled edges, super colour and gilt embossed decoration on front board of a Tolkien dragon, 286 pages plus an additional 2-page map, NO dustjacket AS ISSUED although this copy still has the original tissue wrapper, -housed in a lightly rubbed Very Good/Very Good+ box with paper paste-down on front cover of box lid, a few small spots on paper label, box is NOT torn -12 colour illustrations by JRRT -a SCARCE EDITION that is very much GIFT WORTHY for the TOLKIEN collector, any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo, ///NOT SIGNED -GUARANTEED to be AVAILABLE/// -sizes are approximate (generally within 1/8 inch)- Size: 5.75w x 9h Inches.
